My students are eager learners. When they evaluate their own learning, they want lessons and instructions in a variety of ways. The students will also say they love lots of examples especially when they are learning new skills. They have a desire to learn and to do it well.
My students come from very diverse cultural and language backgrounds and have diverse learning needs and styles.
We have found that presentation materials and hands-on activities reach most of the students. With the proper presentation materials, I am able to give them the proper background knowledge so they can move onto the hands-on activities with clearer knowledge foundations.
My Project
I want to advance my curriculum materials on career and job skills. I want to focus more on the soft skills students will be using in their first jobs. I need materials to teach students how to fill out applications and what goes into resumes. These materials will help develop stronger lessons in how to interview for jobs and how to keep their jobs once they start working. Students are highly invested in knowing more about job skills.
With the advancement of technology, students are lacking the soft skills needed in maintaining jobs.
Many of my students will need to obtain jobs as teenagers due to family economic needs. I want to set them up for success now and give them a head start on their careers. I want to give them the skills they need so they are able to perfect them as they advance into the careers of their future.
As students move into high school, there is a need for them to have a general idea of what careers they maybe interested in. Students need to explore careers based on personality. Most students feel a job as a doctor or lawyer is the way to go because they see it as money jobs. I want to show them other options based on their personality with career inventories and exploration. These materials are centered around this early exploration into careers.
