The students in my central Illinois classroom are three, four, and five years old.
Our little learners are eager and enthusiastic about coming to school to learn through play.
All have been identified as "at-risk" through a developmental screening. They each have a need in one or more of the following areas: language, cognitive, motor, and/or social skills. Many of my students come from low-income households and live in an urban setting with few opportunities to experience nature. For most, this is their first school experience. Many have limited access to educational books and activities at home, and a few are English Language Learners.
My Project
We have a new Cozy Cube in our classroom, which is used by children while looking at books individually or with a friend, and is also used as a "safe seat" for children who need a place to calm and compose themselves. In our Cozy Cube, we have old pillows that are not machine washable. This set of 5 Calming Colors Pillows will be the perfect addition for the cozy corner. The pillow cover colors are soothing and are machine washable.
Along with the Washable Calming Colors Pillows, we will use the two Flexi-Seats in our Cozy Corner.
The Flexi-Seats will allow students and adults to sit together on the floor to read books, practice calming techniques, and have conversations. The covers on the Flexi-Seats are also removable, allowing us to clean them as needed.
Thank you for considering a donation to our Cozy Corner Soft Seats project!
