These classes are in a high school of roughly 1600 students. Students come from largely negative low socioeconomic status and the majority of students are on free or reduced lunch. The students are a blend of many different races and ethnicities and 30% have special needs. The students are highly motivated but really struggle to relax in class and feel comfortable taking chances cognitively.
My students come from unstable home environments, I would like my classroom to be an environment where students feel welcome and safe.
By helping to add soft lighting to my room and eliminate the overhead halogen light, students will be put at ease and be more receptive to new ideas and ask questions that they normally would not.
By donating to this project, you will be helping to create a classroom environment that is calm, warm, and welcoming for students to open up their minds and take creative risks.
When students feel safe and welcomed, better thinking takes place.
By helping to add soft lighting to my room and eliminate the overwhelming overhead halogen lighting, students will be put at ease and be more receptive to new ideas and ask questions that they normally would not. Encouraging students to take chances and venture an idea is the first step in learning. Students cannot take this first step unless they feel safe to do so.
