Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a Second year Third grade teacher and I absolutely LOVE my children!! My students come to me from a low income area and I want so much for them! The majority of the students attending the school are also African-American. The students that go to the school also live within approximately a 5 – 10 mile radius of the school. Many of the students in my class come from a single parent home. My school is a Title I and Reading First school. Because of math testing scores it is required that we have an hour math block.

My students face many obstacles on a daily basis. Most of the live in low income housing and have very little income resources. The parents of my children have very little to provide the resources and materials that my students need for school. My students love to read and enjoy the adventure that reading allows them to have. By having these pillows it would allow to relax and reading comfortably as the book takes them places they would never bee able to go.

Your help will ensure that my students will have an opportunity to enjoy the adventure of reading. You will also make it possible for my kids to improve their reading skills. We all know that comfort is important when learning. If you have to sit on hard floors you will not be able to fully concentrate and get lost in the adventure.
