My Students
Help us create! My students need the tools and technology essential to making their creativity come to life. Help them record their efforts of building a community garden by making the necessary tools accessible!
My 5th through 8th grade Gifted students are some of the best and brightest in Mississippi.
They attend a public middle school in the heart of the Delta. While Delta is the birth place of many creative minds (B.B. King, Tennessee Williams, Morgan Freeman) it is also rife with challenges. One such challenge for my students is their limited access to technology and the arts. Help my students fulfill their creative potential!
“The principle goal of education is to create men [and women] who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done - men [and women] who are creative, inventive and discoverers” -Piaget
My Project
My students will be completing a year long service learning project through which they will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for building a community garden. A crucial aspect of service learning is committing to meaningful reflection. My students have chosen to create a documentary of their experiences and work throughout the year to help them reflect upon their actions. This documentary will also serve to inform community members of the benefits derived from a community garden. Students will use the sketch pads and art pencils to document the various plant species they learn about throughout the year.
Video is the best way to communicate the emotions, motivations, and character of a project, and the sincerity and seriousness of the creator.
It’s also fun! Of course it’s not the presence of a video alone. The effort used to create and upload a video will be reflected in other parts of their project as well. The finalized documentary will reach beyond the classroom allowing students to share the knowledge they acquire with local members of the community!
With image stabilization and a rugged design that is water-resistant up to 10', this camcorder makes it easy to capture sharp, clear videos and still images in varying climate conditions and upload them to Facebook, YouTube or Twitter via the USB connection.
