Help me give my students card stock, Sharpies, Q-Tips and spray bottles so we can continue being creative while remaining socially distanced and safe while creating art in the art room and on the art patio.
My elementary art students, Pre-K-5 (including students with disabilities), love working with and learning about art. They enjoy learning new concepts while they explore and create in the art room.
Many of my students have had limited life experiences, made worse with distance learning and their parents cannot afford to buy the individual art supplies needed for art during the pandemic.
They live in inner-city apartments often moving several times throughout the school year.
Our school is a Title I school with over 90% of our population participating in the free or reduced price lunch program. We have a diverse student body with many children who are just beginning to speak English. School is a safe place where they interact with each other and learn new concepts while exploring new concepts. The language of art creates a secure place for students of all backgrounds and languages. Students can appreciate and share their ideas in the art room where everyone is a super artist!
My Project
These resources will allow my students to complete additional, socially distanced art by providing the materials needed for some independent and outdoor activities.
Card stock and Sharpies will be used by the 3rd - 5th grade students to create art work based on Dr. Seuss's Horse Museum allowing them to interpret the story in an original manner and to write a short Artist's Statement about their picture.
Q-Tips and spray bottle will be used to paint a few projects. At this point we haven't been able to use paint since we would have to share resources.
