I need help getting to the Building Resilient Classrooms with Social Emotional Awareness conference in order to better serve my students by using concepts and tools that I learn there.
I am a speech-language pathologist. I work with kids that range from articulation and language errors to non-speaking to multiple-impaired. I help give them a voice within their classroom and increase their ability to function and learn in the classroom. They need someone to be able to help them have confidence and believe in themselves. The children have the capacity to become more than who they are meant to be, even at such a young age. Communication is such a large part of that.
My Project
When you are just starting school, it is very difficult to see beyond yourself. While it is human nature to be egocentric, a large part of my job in working with our younger students is helping them to exist and thrive as a part of a community.
Learning to build relationships with others is critical to having a happy and successful life.
Children need to be taught not only how to be "nice," but how to be more than that; how to recognize and respond appropriately to the feelings and needs of others through communication! My goal as a speech and language pathologist is to teach my students social-emotional awareness so that our school is a place where all feel safe and treasured!
Attending mindSpark Learning's "Building Resilient Classrooms with Social Emotional Awareness" will help me build my repertoire of strategies and resources to ensure that I can teach our little ones how to be the best humans they can be!
