This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Many of our students have spent the last year or more with minimal opportunities for social interactions outside of their family circle. This has been made abundantly clear by how much my students have been struggling with their problem solving skills and positive interactions with peers, teachers, and other adults this school year. We are doing formal social emotional learning in our classrooms in order to remediate this deficit and my hope is to utilize games, books, mirror expressions, and other resources as a means to practice those skills.
Games provide ample opportunity for children to practice life skills like patience, sharing, collaboration, handling disappointment, appropriate expressions and problem solving.
Your contributions to this project would help to provide a variety of resources for students to choose from to practice these skills in a fun way. Some games are collaborative, so either they all win or all lose, while others are competitive. All of these games will provide opportunities for immediate application of social emotional lessons.
