Help me give my students the tools to help my students develop social and emotional skills they'll need to build their confidence in school, with their peers, and in their daily life.
Students in my classroom are hard workers and have many strengths. They require a modified curriculum and different accommodations throughout the day. Learning through visuals, hands-on-materials and stations are the best way to teach the students' individual needs. With more than 76% of the students in my school receiving free or reduced-price lunch, most of the students come from low-income houses. The teachers are responsible for teaching many social/emotional concepts on a daily basis.
In my classroom Social/Emotional Learning is an important skill to help the students build their confidence and flourish in the classroom.
My Project
The Byron V. Garrett Social-Emotional Learning Collection provides books for not only the teachers, but for the families too. The students will learn the social and emotional skills they'll need to build confidence in school, with their peers, and in life. Each collection includes books that support the feelings students begin to experience, ranging from stories of self-awareness and self-management to building confidence and respect.
Through engaging conversations about the texts with teachers, parents, and classmates, students make connections to the issues they face daily in their life.
I choose grade 3 and 4 collections for my students and families based on the age level of the students in my classroom.
