Students usually find someone in school in which they can relate to. Sometimes, it's a teacher, a person that works in the office, or Me, the school counselor.
My school is located in a low income neighborhood of the Bronx, NY.
It is a 6-12 school serving students from many different ethnic backgrounds. Our school is a community school that has a wide variety of services for students and parents. Some of these services include: a food pantry, after school program for the middle school, mental health counseling, and classes for parents.
My Project
I will use the games to build and form stronger relationships with my students. Using games helps to take the focus on academics and is a strategy known as play therapy which works with students of all ages. Play therapy creates a safe relationship between my students and I. It helps to create bonds and builds trust. Since I am new to my school, these games will be great tools in order to help me in my work as a school counselor.
Snacks...well who doesn't like snacks!
Snacks are a guaranteed way of having the students to come back!
