My wonderful middle school students are part of our school's FAST program, which is a special education program that focuses on functional and academic skills. My students' main goal is to learn skills that will help them be as independent as possible in adulthood.
I am fortunate enough to teach a wonderful group of students who give their best effort every day!
They are hard working and bring a smile to the faces of everyone they interact with. Our class works on reading, writing, and math along with life skills! We run a small coffee cart business and pen/pencil business to help out students and teachers in our school. We complete monthly cooking labs and learn about daily living skills like laundry, cleaning, and organizing. We also love to go on community-based instruction trips, where we volunteer, interact, and learn more about our wonderful community.
My Project
The students within my classroom benefit from direct instruction pertaining to social skills. The social thinking curriculum items on this wish list will help my students understand themselves and others to better navigate the social world, foster relationships, and improve performance at school and at home.
The Zones of Regulation curriculum will help students identify their feelings and develop strategies for emotional and sensory regulation.
The Social Thinking and Me curriculum will help students learn about hidden social rules, expected and unexpected behaviors, and problem solving skills.
You are a Social Detective! will teach students to use their eyes, ears, and brains to figure out what others are planning to do next or are presently doing and what they mean by their words and actions.
