Mr. Taylor from Atlanta GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a color printer and Canon Rebel camera for creatively capturing assignments, trips, and to support school yearbook photos.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Students use textbooks, worksheets and have four computers to use daily in my classroom. We need a color printer for assignments. A camera will support classroom assignments and production of the school yearbook. Technology will be used for research and completion of student assignments.
My students are 6th graders.
They are eager to learn and explore new concepts. The students are a mixture of gifted, on-level and low-level students from various ethnic groups. Technology fuels their learning and creativity! Academics are the primary emphasis at the school. The school is diversely mixed and the core of the curriculum focuses on math, science, social studies and language arts with the goal of academic excellence and personal character development. Connections classes such as art, music, drama, physical education, etc. enhance the instruction. The school has some technology but it does not adequately support the number of students in the classroom. Teachers are able to sign up for laptop carts and computer labs, but they are in heavy use and limited supply. There are no cameras available for check out and printers are limited and only print in black ink. Having access to more technology in the classroom will definitely be a thrill for the students!
The students will use the materials to primarily complete classroom assignments, projects and support the yearbook staff. The student will be able to research, write and print assignments, and produce photos/visuals to enhance the quality of their assignments. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home. Students need computers, printers, cameras and others resources to support their learning. Some students have never had the opportunity to experience using technology to present their work. The experiences will help build learning and confidence. The school has produced some awesome yearbooks! Students use personal cell phones and small cameras to capture the spirit of the school year in photos. Having high quality cameras and printers will allow students to produce the best assignments and yearbook ever!
The donations will make my classroom come alive!
Students will develop skills in the use of technologies to support learning and produce assignments in a new and fun way. We can move away from the pencil and paper classroom, passively learning facts and look toward learning effectively through performance tasks and project-based learning activities in the classroom. Students will be able to develop skills in planning, critical thinking, reasoning and creativity with the use of new technologies.
