Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have an appetite for learning about the world around them and have not been allowed the opportunity to learn.
I teach ESL and Bilingual to some amazing students in Kindergarten through second grade.
Our school services many students that have qualified for ELL and Bilingual services but also serve students in special education and gifted and talented programs. I work with some of the most dedicated and hard working students and families. We also have incredible support from hard working dedicated parents that love that their students finally have the opportunity to learn in their native language. Despite the fact that it is a low-income area, students, parents, and teachers alike work together to create a community in which we strive for success for all no matter the obstacles that may stand in our way.
My Project
Our school district is currently using social studies text books that were published in 1997. This forces us to supplement much of our curriculum. The materials I am requesting are all great books and hands on manipulatives that would enhance the learning experience of my students. They have the opportunity to learn about so many important parts of our world but are forced to learn through worksheets and an outdated textbook. These hands on materials would allow my students to actually hold and see the continents and landmarks and allow them to read more from updated texts.
Donations to this project will change my students' lives for the better because it will help them understand our world.
These students have a love for learning and it would only enhance their learning.
