Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th-grade World History at a Title I middle school in Miami. Over 3/4's of the student population qualify for reduced-price or free lunch. Many of the students are also English Language Learners, and quite a few are recent immigrants from Latin America.
In the words of one of my students, "We don't even know US History, and you want to teach us World History?" Yes I do, but I need your support!
I make the material engaging and accessible to them through technology, group work, and active discussions, but there are not enough resources to go around. That is where you can help!
My Project
As many of you know, technology is a must in the classroom. Miami-Dade County has only purchased digital copies of the textbook this year, and many of the students do not have laptops at home. Their only way of completing necessary coursework and creative projects is in school. The laptops I have are aging and do not function as they should. There are no funds to replace the ones that have broken.
Please help me purchase SSD's and battery replacements for the broken computers so they may be used again!
An SSD will replace the corrupted and damaged hard drives, and breathe new life into the devices we have. New batteries will make sure that all students throughout the day will have a working computer with some level of charge. The drives and batteries are the most economical and affordable option, and for the price of 2 new laptops, I can repair 20. This will help ensure that each student has a device in class. Thank you for your support!
