Do you remember trying to learn about the world and not really understanding what other places looked like? My students have a hard time grasping the many cultures and struggles that face the world.
I teach at a school where students care and work very hard.
This is a public school located outside of metro Detroit. Many of them face language barriers and economic struggles that do not afford them with a chance to learn using technology, especially the type that could take learning to a whole new level. Students love using technology, but it is not always readily available to them.
My Project
I am asking for one iPad Mini for my classroom. It will be used to allow my students to become engaged with the world both spatially and visually. It will allow them to dive into the vast cultures and environments that make up a world so very diverse. My English language learners, who struggle to speak English, will have an opportunity to use the iPad to listen and learn the material at their level. Students will also be able to use applications that focus on locating continents, countries, and cities throughout the world in a fun manner. The benefits of having this one iPad in my class would be enormous for my students. My plan will also incorporate collaborating with a fellow teacher who teaches 9th graders to mentor my 7th graders during learning activities with technology.
Technology has made our world a "global village"; please allow my students to have the world at their fingertips.
My students will have the chance to interact and be engaged like never before. They will also have the chance to make a difference learning the many wonders of our world. For a variety of reasons, many of my students won't have the opportunity to learn using the latest technology unless a program such as this one were to help in making it possible.
