Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school with students from second to sixth grade. My students are from the inner city and mostly English language learners. They are hardworking, self-motivated young people who are eager to be lifelong learners.
The school's philosophy focuses on leadership skills, with an emphasis on being a critical thinker.
Scholars use 21st century skills when working in and outside of the classroom.
My scholars want to be the first in their families to attend an institution of higher learning.
My Project
This hands-on project will allow students to use their artistic creativity to build meaning of Social Studies concepts. Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
Working in the arts allows learners to develop creative problem-solving skills.
Students will create visual paintings or drawings of artifacts that represent an ancient civilization. The paint brushes and canvas boards will be used to create representations of famous buildings or personalities of an ancient civilization. The paint trays will help with organizing paints. The aprons will keep students clean as they create their paintings.
