My students need Social Stories to learn school readiness skills such as following directions, turn taking, and sharing. Velcro, lamination, & card stock are the tools I need to make vibrant, interactive, & developmentally appropriate books.
My students are amazing four year-olds who live in Baltimore City. For most of them, Pre-K is their first school experience. They are excited to come to school, meet new friends, and learn. Resources are low in Baltimore City, so our school system provides free breakfast and lunch daily to all students. This year these little learners will make leaps and bounds in their literacy, mathematics, and social-emotion skills. By June, they will be ready for Kindergarten. Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated, and every penny will be spent to create lifetime learners who will help make this word a better place.
My Project
Young learners thrive on repetition, and Social Stories provide children with a repetitive story structure that supports the learning of new social skills.
Why are Social Stories so Effective?
Social Stories present targeted and repetitive information to address specific social situations. They are proactive, meaning they focus on behaviors teachers want to increase. Social Stories provide children with the opportunity to hear behavior expectations phrased in a positive manner.
The Social Stories I will make using the requested Velcro, card stock, lamination, and glue will support Baltimore City Pre-K students in gaining the necessary skills for Kindergarten readiness. Thank you in advance for any support you can provide!
