Help me give my students the tools they need to transition back into the general education classroom. They need support right now to deal with their emotions that hinder their social skills.
My classroom is one of two behavior modification classes. We specialize in growing our students to transition back into the general education population. Our students are Kindergarten to Second Grade with some social emotional learning gaps. These gaps often hinder their performance in the general education classroom. We strive to teach our students to be successful in the school setting. Many have outside struggles and this is their safe place to learn and grow.
With these skills, our students will have the background they need to reach their full potential.
My Project
The materials chosen will help our students tremendously. Our students typically cannot define how they are feeling. This in turn makes it difficult for them to show empathy to others. These materials will be used throughout the day for on the spot lessons. If a student is having difficulty with their social skills or emotionally, we can stop and have a one on one session. We also have a time of the day to use the materials in small group settings for open conversations about our social skills and emotional learning. At these times they can also learn from their peers. The puzzles can go into a center where they can use what they have learned.
