Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are full of excitement for learning. The diverse population within our walls allows them to view everyone as a unique individual with common needs.
Our emphasis on respect, responsibility, and kindness has permeated throughout.
My students are learning life skills of cooperation, collaboration, and perseverance. I am a big proponent of teaching my students age-appropriate independence early on.
My students use their senses to explore and learn about the world. To encourage these explorations, I would like to foster their independence by giving them easy access to learning materials.
My Project
My kindergarten students are ages four through six throughout the year. They come in with varying degrees of being socially enlightened. This is all developmental.
This is the prime time in young childrens' lives to learn how to be socially appropriate with their peers.
These books will help me to introduce such skills as: respecting personal space, telling the truth, making good independent choices, paying attention, learning from mistakes, handling disappointment, showing compassion, using positive words, and getting the teacher's attention appropriately.
A good way to introduce a concept is to use a book. Students can start to relate to the characters and get inspired to make good choices.
