Imagine the joy on a child's face when discovering a new toy to play with! I teach in a special needs preschool classroom where the quantity and quality of our dramatic play materials is fading fast. We need new and safe toys for the children to play with and learn how to improve their social skills.
I teach in a developmental preschool classroom within a public school setting.
My students are ages 3-5 and includes a variety of physical, emotional, language and developmental ability levels. I also work in a low income district, so many of my students do not have toys of their own in their homes. Because of the diverse population of students, it is important that a variety of materials be available to meet the needs of each student. This project is for those students who are able to play with age related toys in an appropriate manner.
My Project
These resources will help develop appropriate play skills, and social skills including sharing, taking turns, playing with the toys as they were designed to be used and taking care of them. These toys replicate community services which will also help with using their imagination and problem solving skills.
Many of the toys and materials in our classroom are outdated and not complete.
With increasing classroom sizes and decreasing budgets, providing my students with clean, safe and age appropriate toys has become very difficult. Please help me experience the joy of a new toy at school!! Thank you!
