Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Books are the foundation of education. It is a sad fact that students in America do not have adequate access to them, especially on the topic of poverty. The more exposure children have to quality literature, the richer their lives will be. This is obvious. Your help will be an invaluable gift.

Our Social Justice and Language Arts Magnet school emphasizes the respect of self and others.

This encompasses discipline and high expectations as well as activism and compassion. The kids know they will be Agents of Change and follow our school motto "Be the change you want to see in the world." African American students form about 75% of our school alongside with 22% of Hispanic kids and 1% of Asian children. This rich diversity of cultures offers unlimited opportunities to learn tolerance and team work while discovering new perspectives.

My Project

This collection of books will provide invaluable support to the goal of teaching children to have compassion for others, to appreciate their own good fortune, and ultimately to act against all forms of social injustice. "Tight Times" deals with poverty issues that we can all relate to and is written in a way that students can understand. Your generosity will help my students celebrate diversity, understand more about poverty and what to do about it, and will help them to learn to read as well. A true bargain!

It is always a great pleasure for me to see students engaged in lessons that have real meaning for them.

In my classroom we study about the effects of poverty on all of us. The supplies that you provide will form an important part of the meaningful, culturally relevant curriculum that I strive to deliver. Rest assured: your donation will make a real difference.
