Social Justice and Social Skills Through Literature!
Help me give my students social skills through social justice! It's so important to make sure that every learner sees themselves in the books I read and that child also can learn about people that are different!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My pre-k student are a high energy bunch on the edge of North Las Vegas. They love learning new things and hearing beautiful stories. Being three, four and five year olds, their experience is limited and their backgrounds are varied.
All my students share a common excitement when it comes to learning new things.
I love to provide engaging ways for them to learn new things. They are excited to hear new stories and are developing their love for learning.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my children and the world in mind.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read and listen to books read aloud about people that are different from them and for others it may be the first time they see someone in a book that looks or acts like them.
