When you walk through the door of 2nd Grade at Big Springs Elementary, the first thing to hit you is the sense that you are welcome to stay awhile and learn with us. That feeling has been generated by the incredible mix of personalities and talents in Room 3. My group of 2nd grade students are curious, friendly and ready to see the world. They are driven by their natural desire to LEARN and their love of sharing what they discover. Unfortunately, many of them have faced hard trials this year, facing stress and troubles beyond their years.
It is impossible to learn while dealing with strong emotions, stressful life events, or when your family life is under strain. Our goal in this project is to reach out to families and students who are struggling with the impact of life's stress, promote healthy coping skills and provide tools for strengthening mental health. Every material in this project will work together to create a social-emotional kit for families to take home for a time. These kits may include workbooks, tools for coping with stress, fidgets, games, books, and mental exercise cards. Given the current status of the nation and issues we are facing with Covid-19, the mental health and well being of our students is in jeopardy.
