My classroom is always buzzing. We are a very busy first grade class as we are always exploring and experimenting to answer inquiry based questions. I am hoping to add some great new features to my classroom to make learning even more exciting and flexible for all of my students.
As an engineering school for children, all of my students are scientists.
They are curious, and have a strong desire to answer their questions through the engineering process and experimentation. They think deeply about problems and are great problem solvers who work together. They have a great sense of community among their peers, both older and younger. They truly are the vision of the future.
My Project
Students learn best when their minds are at ease and their bellies are full. They can think, problem-solve, communicate, and learn better when their social-emotional needs are met. They work with a more positive attitude, have more stamina throughout the school day, and are more willing to take on challenges.
This project will help my students achieve these social-emotional goals by providing them with healthy and organic snack options to have during the day (as some do not come having eaten breakfast), and provides game-like learning activities to practice different social-emotional skills such as manners, empathy, communication, and feelings.
Every day students enter the classroom with a fresh potential to grow as learners and to develop strong social-emotional skills that will help them to problem solve, demonstrate empathy for others, regulate their emotions in healthy ways, and challenge themselves to have a growth mindset. These skills will not only make them successful in their learning now, but as community members and workers in the future.
