At our school, we teach the whole student by focusing on their social emotional needs as well as their academic. Our students have faced and continue to face a variety of trauma. To meet their needs, social emotional skills are taught daily.
Social emotional resources are crucial to students' success both in and out of the classroom.
With the right resources, students will be able to navigate their emotions in a healthy way. Learning exercises like mindfulness and meditation, as well as having a supportive environment, will allow students to cope with what may be impeding on their abilities to reach their full potential. We want to be able to provide the resources that our students need in order to thrive emotionally, socially and academically.
My Project
A cozy and welcoming area are key for students to begin emotional growth. The requested cotton craft rug and floor seats will provide students a comfortable area where students will identify their emotions and the cause of them. Once students identify their emotions and the cause, they will then decide what they will do next based off their reflection.
With an iPad, students can download mindfulness and meditation apps that will help them make positive choices when feeling down or angry.
Calming tools such as stress ball, activity books and puzzles can be used in the calm down corner. Art will be used as a form of therapy and students can indulge in painting, drawing and coloring when needed. The calm down corner will provide students resources that will allow students to take control of their emotions and make positive and healthy decisions.
