My Students

I am an elementary school psychologist. My job is to collaborate with school staff and to provide them with ongoing support for students who have academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges.

The students I work with vary in age and ability levels.

I work to develop different strategies to help my students succeed within the special education setting and general education settings. A few examples of the counseling services that I have provided in the past are: social skills development groups, organizational and time management counseling groups, ongoing counseling for students with a variety of needs (i.e. students in the foster care system, students from divorced families, students who have been exposed to various forms of abuse/trauma). I also assess students for special education services. This includes, but is not limited to, students with learning disabilities, ADHD autism, health impairments, physical impairments, and emotional disturbances.

My Project

The students I work with in the special education and general education programs at my school need explicit instruction on how to manage their emotions and find appropriate coping strategies and tools to be successful in the classroom.

I chose many books that address the needs of my students and will help supplement and enhance the lessons and activities that I create on managing anger, coping with anxiety and sadness, improving their attention and focus in the classroom, and being a caring and responsible student.

These books, games, and activities will be extremely beneficial in providing a safe and happy space for my students to come to when managing their emotions is particularly difficult. These materials will enable me to be a more efficient and engaging practitioner and help the social-emotional development of the children I work with.
