I teach at a wonderful, supportive school and community in suburban Seattle. My students are extremely curious, excited to learn, full of energy, and creative. The kids in my class are super sweet and full of questions!
My students love reading whether it is by themselves, with a partner, or as a read aloud.
They are becoming more confident and skilled readers and writers in a variety of genres. My kids love solving math challenges with a partner or playing math games with a group. My students especially look forward to our weekly Fun Friday art projects.
My Project
First graders deal with a range of emotions and social situations. Oftentimes, first graders need support dealing with these issues so that they can learn how to handle them, problem solve, work it out, and get their needs met. We want to teach our students these skills so they find happiness and success throughout their lives.
These books include topics like tattling/reporting, calming ourselves down when frustrated, learning how to be a good sport, showing empathy, being a listener, making and keeping friendships.
These books are engaging and include relate-able characters, catchy story lines, and fabulous illustrations.
I was able to collaborate with the school counselor and another 1st grade teacher when picking all of the books. If this project is funded, these books will be shared among all the first grade classrooms. We are hoping to read many new social stories every week to help our students to be more successful in our classrooms, on the playground, at home, and in their future lives.
