I teach in a Title I school in Missouri where more than 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, many of our students are English language learners and we have the highest mobility rate in our district.
My students are energetic, eager to learn and love to take on new challenges!
They come to school every day counting on our classroom to be a safe and respectful environment where they feel loved, valued, and given every opportunity to learn.
My Project
In our school, the social and emotional needs of our students are our highest priority. We are fortunate to have access to Second Step, a social-emotional curriculum that teaches problem solving, emotion management, empathy and conflict resolution strategies. Many of the lessons in this curriculum include engaging songs and video clips to help students remember steps for how to calm down and how to solve a problem.
We are asking for 6 external DVD/CD drives, one for each grade level in our school, to share these social emotional resources with our students.
Currently, our school only has one DVD drive for all of our classrooms to share. If each grade level had their own to use, teachers could share these powerful songs and videos with their students and have more access to the technology needed to share our social emotional curriculum.
