Help me give my students social-emotional support, using literature, to meet their unique needs through guidance lessons in classrooms and group and individual sessions with students.
I am a school counselor in a diverse school with approximately 500 students that range from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses.
Our students have huge hearts and love to learn!
Each one of them is precious and a joy to have at our school. They are energetic and full of life!
An important part of my role as a school counselor is to help students and teachers build a positive classroom culture through an emphasis on social-emotional learning. Social and emotional learning can enhance a student's ability to succeed in school, careers, and life.
My Project
These books would be used to teach these skills to classrooms through Guidance Lessons. In addition, they would be used to help students individually who are struggling, as well as in small groups.
Social-emotional learning helps students learn how to identify and manage their emotions, relate to others, show empathy, make good decisions, and set and achieve goals.
Share and Take Turns - This book will be used with students who are struggling with sharing and taking turns.
What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and The Huge Bag of Worries - These books will be used with students who are struggling with anxiety.
The Bad Seed - This book will be used with students who feel like they can't do anything right.
The Invisible String - This book will be used with students who have experienced a loss or death.
A Smart Girl's Guide: Friendship Troubles (Revised): Dealing with fights, being left out & the whole popularity thing and Pirate, Viking & Scientist - These are excellent books to use with students who are struggling with friendship issues.
A Terrible Thing Happened - This book will be used to help students who have experienced some type of trauma.
Beautiful - This book will be used with girls to boost their self esteem.
Tease Monster: A Book About Teasing Vs. Bullying - This book will be used with students to help stop bullying in school.
Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes - This book will be used with students to help encourage them to have a positive attitude.
Clark the Shark - This book will be used to help students develop the skills they need to follow directions in the classroom.
