My students are 3-5 year old at-risk pre-k students who attend a high poverty public school. About 90% of the students come from low-income homes. Many do not have a home environment that encourages learning. I want my students to be able to learn through a variety of experiences in the classroom.
Playing through a variety of experiences in the classroom will encourage a love of learning and allow my students to explore, create, and experiment with materials.
My students are eager to learn and excited to come to school every day.
My Project
A child's social emotional learning directly impacts their success in school and life. The resources I have included in my project will help my children develop their social emotional skills so they can learn to get along with others and regulate their emotions.
Social emotional skills have a direct impact on academic readiness skills.
Teaching these skills to my pre-k students will allow them to develop positive relationships, self-regulation and self-confidence which will allow them to focus on their learning in the classroom. Reading books and engaging in fun activities will provide my students with opportunities to become well-rounded individuals.
Listening to My Body: A guide to helping kids understand the connection between their sensations (what the heck are those?) and feelings so that they can get better at figuring out what they need.
