Social & Emotional Learning For Sixth Graders

My Students

I teach a group of high energy sixth graders in a small school district in central Wisconsin. Many of my students are receiving free and reduced lunch.

My students are enthusiastic, hardworking and truly special students of all different ability levels, including children with disabilities.

I will be working hard to make sure each student feels safe and has the social and emotional skills needed for success. l am excited to have the opportunity to improve the learning environment in my classroom.

My Project

My school has adopted the Conscious Discipline framework for our social and emotional learning program. It's critical that students are able to find ways to self regulate.

I'm working on setting up a safe place for students to go to calm down with a bean bag chair and a basket of fidgets.

The bean bag chair will provide a safe place for students to relax when when they are feeling stressed, upset or overwhelmed and the fidget toys are a way to help them learn to calm down in a healthy way. When they are ready to learn they are able to rejoin the class.
