We focus on credit recovery and specialize in helping students who may be overwhelmed or distracted by the wide array of course offerings, extracurricular activities or social challenges at a large high school campus. Our school appeals to students will benefit from small class sizes, individual attention and accessible teachers who are dedicated to doing what’s best for students.
Our students come from all walks of life, but many of them have had significant personal and academic struggles and are trying to finding their way socially, emotionally and academically.
Many of our students will first generation high school graduates with the ultimate goal of making them selves, their families and their communities proud. Many of our student work full time outside of school to support the family and other are teen parents who are trying to get their diploma to provide a better future for their own children. We have a 4% homeless population and 74% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Ultimately, our student are a unique population with a wide range of circumstance and obstacles that contribute to there struggles. The SEL classroom equip the students with tools and strategies to better handle these challenges.
My Project
For the 2018-2019 School Year this campus is implementing the Social Emotional Learning (Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsibility Decision-Making) curriculum school-wide. However, to meet the needs of individual students, a Social Emotional Learning Classroom will be equipped with appropriate tools and resources to provide the necessary interventions.
By donating to this project you will be helping to create an alternative and safe environment for student to focus on their social and emotional needs, with the ultimate goal that personal success' and growth that will occur in the SEL classroom will then translate academically.
We firmly believe that in order to be even more successful in our desire to server the whole child we must incorporate social and emotional learning into out already unique program. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which students and adults acquire and learn to apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decision. (CASEL, 2018). The Social Emotional Classroom can be the bridge for student success, as it will be designed and furnished to provide SEL intervention strategies in a supportive and alternative environment.
