Our students are an eager bunch that will get to work on and incorporate more social-emotional learning this year! They are students who will benefit from a comprehensive school counseling program and social-emotional resources to enhance their academic achievement. As the school counselor, I am excited to build great relationships with these kids through fostering resiliency, mindfulness and a growth mindset. Being that our students are about fifty percent military, they have a wide range of emotions, thoughts and feelings to address and understand.
My Project
It is crucial that our students have access to the supplies and resources needed to facilitate their social-emotional development. These types of interventions can help increase academic achievement, increase attendance and decrease behavioral referrals. Further, our students deserve to be in a safe environment that allows them to flourish for who they are. The materials that are requested to be used, will provide our students the opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions with great care (and fun!). For example, we will use story books to discuss character traits such as respect, empathy and kindness in our lessons. We will use the games to build positive relationships with adults and classmates.
