The wonderful students I'm fundraising for are in my 9th grade homeroom. In Hhomeroom, we work toward building academic skills, social-emotional skills, and a community within the classroom.
These students are currently navigating their first year of high school.
With this in mind, my goal is to help them feel supported by me and by each other throughout their time in high school.
My homeroom students are kind, creative, and extremely hardworking. They are an amazing group of teenagers who go the extra mile in everything they do!
My Project
In this project, I am asking for social-emotional tools to support my 9th grade students' development and to build our community within the classroom.
These tools are meant to help us get to know each other, relieve stress, and highlight the positives in life.
In this project, there are two card games: one that focuses on getting to know one another, and one that helps students practice mindfulness. Both would be used weekly to build community and to build on our practice of mindfulness. Ultimately, I hope to give students the opportunity to lead the class in these activities using the cards along with their own ideas.
There are a few sets of stress toys in various forms. Students can use these while they work, while we discuss in Circle, and during mindfulness practice. Students often find it helpful to use stress toys during classes. I would use these as a classroom set that students can take from at any time during Homeroom.
Finally, there are happiness journals and animal pens. The journals will be used to write down reminders of the positive moments in life. The pens are to use with the journals. These students love fun pens!
