My Students
My students live in an urban environment. Many of them do not have the opportunity to see much beyond their own city. My goal is to teach our three and four year old students as much as I can about the world around them.
My classroom is filled with many opportunities for the children to learn through play.
Since the children are so young we focus on social emotional learning that includes recognizing feelings, how to speak up for themselves and calming down techniques.
Also, my students are being introduced to the alphabet by learning about how their names look and are spelled. For many of the children letters are part of a whole new world, therefore, we use many materials to reinforce the alphabet including having the children sign-in daily.
My Project
I would like to create a specific space in my classroom for children to learn about their emotions. I choose books that will help them learn to explore the range of emotions they have and how to self regulate. I also picked a variety of toys that will help students delve in to what these emotions look like including cuddly bears that have sad and happy faces.
Children will be able to use these materials when they are having strong emotions.
These toys will help them understand how they are feeling and allow them the chance to name their emotions.
