Social Emotional Development Curriculum Materials!
My students need education and activity materials to support social emotional learning in the classroom, including activity books and reproducible materials.
"Promoting social-emotional and character development of children is, paradoxically, the best opportunity for innovation in education. It is accessible, feasible, sensible, cost-effective, within our grasp, and supported by evidence." -Maurice Elias, USA.
I teach in a K-3 self-contained social emotional development classroom.
On top of teaching them all academic content areas, I am also responsible for helping these young ones to develop social and emotional strategies to better handle everyday stresses and situations. My students are bright and have many interests. They have so much to offer in the way of community and helping each other, but often have trouble using their gifts because of their inability to communicate their emotions. Despite this, there are so many joyful moments that we share together, and I know that through the use of a social emotional curriculum, we can add many more to those.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are books full of stories, activities, writing prompts, and role playing opportunities to teach my students how to be better communicators and more responsible citizens, both inside and outside of the classroom. Activities would include skits, trust-building exercises, and how to take these skills and apply them in their everyday life. I have integrated time into our learning schedule for explicit instruction in this area, but as of yet have no materials to develop and support this unique type of instruction. Students in a social-emotional development program should have top-quality access to opportunities that will grow them in these areas; but due to a lack of resources, do not have that.
My students come to my classroom with unique needs.
It is my responsibility as their teacher to give them the tools needed to improve their ability to be successful socially and emotionally, and with these materials, I would be able to build a curriculum that would do just that.
