Social Distancing & Staying Safe in the Bear Room!
Help me give my students the supplies to make their first year in school a successful, engaging, and exciting time. These items will help give my students their own supplies/space/safety measures to social distance the best we can.
I teach kindergarten in Brighton, Michigan. Kindergarteners enter the school year so excited to learn and grow socially, emotionally, and academically. As kindergarteners, a lot of my students are entering the school environment for the first time. This year will be different, but it’s my job to keep their excitement and engagement alive and to make this year the best we can!
My Project
Our district is returning to face to face instruction starting on September 8th. I will have a kindergarten classroom with up to 24 students, which makes it very hard to social distance. My students have tables that sit five to six students rather than individual desks. Typically my students have a coat room to hang their backpacks and coats, but this year they will not be used. They will be putting their belongings at their table. This money will help provide clear dividers for the each student's areas. This will help to keep them safe, and give them their own personal space. Along with the clear dividers for the desk I am getting each student their own personal over the chair organizer for their things. This year instead of communal scissors, colored pencils, markers, crayons, etc. each student will have their own supplies. The over the chair organizers will help keep their supplies separate from others, and also give a safe place for their book bags, writing journals, and science notebooks to be. Typically I would have a writing journal bin for each table, and a spot in our reading area for book bags, but this year looks very different. I am trying to keep this year as exciting and get the students to feel as comfortable as possible while in the classroom. These are some steps I am taking to help students stay safe, and try to keep my classroom running as normal as possible throughout this tough time.
