Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the lucky 3rd grade teacher of 22 amazing children. Many of these children are English language learners and/or have special needs. They come from very diverse backgrounds but love the adventure of learning new information.
The families in our community come from a hard-working, low-income area in Connecticut.
I often don't feel comfortable requesting supplies from our students' parents because most of them are working at least two jobs just to get by. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students do not have the means to even bring a snack to school.
My Project
These materials will make it super easy for my students to have and store their own supplies as we start this crazy school year with in-person learning. If we switch to virtual learning, students will be able to take their packs home to use while we distance learn. Students will have their own coloring and writing utensils to complete their work.
With these starter packs, I will be able to supply my students with everything they will need to get through the day without needing to share items with others.
