I have the absolute best group of 2nd graders! They are extremely excited for this upcoming school year!
I teach in a low-income, high poverty area in the southeast corner of Oklahoma.
My students come from a wide range of households and often times my students only meals are those that they receive at school. Although they face many obstacles my students are very polite and they come to school eager to learn! Growing up in a poverty area like ours, children learn to improvise and be creative thinkers. Their imagination is absolutely inspiring to me! They are curious about everything and excited to learn to read! I have always been passionate about literature and I teach them that each book is a new adventure that they can take! I am so blessed to work with each group of new learners and watch them fall in love with reading as I did! I would like to provide my students with comfortable flexible seating that they can distance themselves in the classroom through this time of Covid 19, at the same time they can enjoy reading time in a space that they feel is their own!
My Project
Students learn best when they are comfortable in the classroom. I have tables for my students' assigned seat. I would like to give my students a variety of comfortable seating options that will allow them to social distance and work comfortably.
I would like to add more flexible seating options for my students to choose from while social distancing in the classroom.
Adding rugs to the classroom will help define areas for distancing and give the room an overall comfortable feel. The flexible seating options will allow them to read and complete assignments more comfortably, as opposed to being seated close together at a table all day. The finger lights will be used for Flashlight Friday as a reward, as well as promoting a love for reading!
