Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My upcoming class will have a variety of needs and I want to provide them with all the options I can to make their 4th grade year the best it can be!
My students are eager to learn and try new things, but they have the odds stacked against them.
I have general education students and special education students, as well as students learning the English Language in my classroom. I am a fourth-grade teacher in a low-income urban area in New Jersey. More than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I am privileged to be at the same school for over 20 years. Our school is in an urban area. Many of my students face daily challenges including limited support at home by parents, trauma, and poverty. Despite these challenges, the climate of my classroom is nurturing and sets high expectations for all students.
My Project
I have been mailing my students birthday cards since we have been learning remotely this school year. Although they are enjoying the cards and letters. I would like to mail them incentives for attending class, reaching a new goal in reading, actively participating in classroom discussions.
Everyone enjoys mail and praise for a job well done!
It brings a smile to my face when they tell me they have received my card. Since we are continuing our distance learning, I would like to give them a reward for coming to school each day.
