We are a 2nd grade classroom in a Title I school. In our classroom, we work each day to be the best version of ourselves. Some days are easier than others, but in our classroom, we do second chances, accept mistakes and build each other up.
Some of my students have some unstable things happening in their lives, so I want to make sure they know they are welcome each and every day in our classroom and know that I will always give them my best.
I want my students to leave each day feeling great about what they have accomplished. I want them to know they are cared about no matter what.
My Project
My students come from some very unfortunate backgrounds. Coming together at the beginning and the end of every day helps students prepare and reflect on their learning and behavior.
Coming together in a circle creates a more inviting space than teacher vs.
students. It helps students to feel valued and on the same level as everyone else. This allows me as an educator to have open and honest and possibly progressive conversations with kids.
Last year I implemented social circles and the students loved it. However, making the circle took too much time. I think it would be amazing to have a circle rug so students had a place they were comfortable where we could all sit and talk.
