Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have two different groups of students that I work with. First I have 22 2nd graders who are so excited to learn and experience new things. We have a classroom mixed with ELL learners, children with learning disabilities, and mixed academic levels. My students come from various economic backgrounds, and have different levels of family support at home. I also have my Bear Den of 15 different students from grades K-5. I meet with these students once per week to work on social and emotional skills. The idea is to build relationships with kids that are not in your class, and to keep those relationships for six years. I will work with these kids the entire six years they are at our school.
My Project
I recently ordered several books that will help kids work on their social and emotional skills. This project is to give kids activities to go with the books I will be reading. For example we will create journals so kids can record their feelings and goals. We will use the Christmas ornaments to decorate trees at a nursing home while we are reading about kindness and empathy. All of these craft projects will go with books I’m reading. These projects will kids examples of how to practice their social and emotional skills.
