My Students
The students I work with struggle daily with routines, transitions and even being able to follow simple directions. My students are smart and happy kids, but they have trouble daily in and out of the classroom. My students need to develop skills of coping with problems, coping with change, and coping with the loss. My students are hard workers and do not understand the feelings that are happening to them daily. They want to be able to understand and control not only their minds but their bodies as well.
My Project
At the school I work at we have around 600 students. I work with ages 5-11 daily on many different issues. We work on listening skills, following directions in the classroom. We talk about solutions to problems such as teasing, self-esteem, anger and sadness. My job is to help them reflect on the choices, behaviors and outcomes of the situations. These books are a great resource. Many of the children I work with respond to pictures and stories. These books will help the student and I work through their own dilemmas and problem solve for solutions and strategies they can use daily.
