Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Health/Physical Education teacher in an urban school in Philadelphia serving at-risk and minority students. The school is an accelerated high school for students who are behind in high school credits and in danger of dropping out of high school. The students here have amazing potential and are great kids. They work hard everyday but unfortunately aren't afforded the same resources others may have in other schools. The majority of students in my school come from low-income households, and many students have dealt with unimaginable challenges due to crime, violence, and other obstacles, but they really want to thrive both as students and members of the community.
This is my 2nd year at this school and we have very limited resources.
I have took it upon myself to provide my students with quality gym equipment. We are requesting 2 large soccer nets/goals so we can play soccer in gym class. Your help and contributions will be a huge help to students who actually need it! Thank you for your generosity and compassion!
My Project
My students need soccer goals, soccer balls, cones, and scrimmage pinnies so they can play soccer in gym class. Many of our students come from Central and South America, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic where soccer (futbol) is very prevalent. I want to provide them with quality soccer equipment so that they can enjoy the game they love while they also improve their fitness. This equipment would mean the world to them in providing a fun gym/PE class where they can play the team sport they love most and work on teamwork, and sportsmanship along the way. This equipment will help them to gain valuable lessons that can be instilled through team sports!
