Middle school can be tough. Socially, emotionally, and academically, there can be lots of challenges for students in the early teen years. My students are learning English and adapting to a new culture while navigating these difficult years, and this creates an extra layer of challenge.
My English Language Learner students are resilient, resourceful, and caring young teens.
Many of my students this year recently arrived refugees from Africa and the Middle East. They tackle problems cheerfully and with gusto, but they also experience significant adjustment challenges. These students have been through a great deal beyond their control in their short lives, but they use multiple talents and strengths to overcome current obstacles.
My Project
Students in one of my classes have had the opportunity to play a game of Breakout EdU, and they had a blast racing the clock as they solved puzzles together to open locks and "break out" of our classroom. We need another Breakout EDU kit, soccer balls, soccer books and an agility ladder to take this learning game outside with larger classes for some soccer-inspired fun!
Our exciting new soccer-inspired game will involve teams working together to solve reading puzzles and perform passes and kicks in order to open locks before time runs out.
We'll be outside practicing reading and math skills and showing off our soccer ability all at the same time. Please help us build soccer skills and academic skills with the same fun-filled healthy activity.
