Ours is a Title I school located in Kansas. The majority of our students are on a free or reduced lunch plan and many are English Language Learners. Though these kids might not have everything that others do; they come to school with great attitudes and minds like sponges that are ready to soak up any learning opportunity that is thrown their way.
Some of the students are homeless.
There are a lot of special needs students at the school. The neighborhood in which the school resides was hit by a tornado a few years ago. Some of the students live with grandparents or in single parent homes. A lot of the parents are unemployed due to the recession and the economy.
My Project
The students will use the soccer balls, footballs, and basketballs to participate in sports. The children will improve on their leadership skills and team work skills. The health of the kids will improve and might give them a chance to play in college or the professional level.
With the soccer balls, footballs, and basketballs the students will participate in sports and improve their health.
The children will be able to perform better academically because they have better health. Research shows that kid athletes are absent from school 50% less often, have an 11% higher graduation rate, and are four times more likely to attend college. Who knows one day a student might play sports and be seen on ESPN.
