This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are true eagles! They have the ability to soar, however, we are a large non-title one school, with limited support. Seventeen of my twenty-two students are economically disadvantaged.
Fourteen of my twenty-two students came to first grade recognizing less than one hundred sight words.
This in turn affected their confidence, and ability to comprehend what they read.
They have persevered like true eagles and now 95% recognize more than 100 sight words, and can read on grade-level. It is my goal to continue to keep my students soaring with sight words using a quick effective way of assessing to build their sight word knowledge with little one-on-one testing.
My Project
This iPad will allow my students many opportunities to practice their sight word recognition along with providing them access to online leveled ebooks.
Integrating technology into my classroom is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles.
It will be used to support both teaching and learning, instead of the teacher being the only source of help in our classroom.
Students will be able to access additional resources online, making it easy to track their individual and class-wide reading progress and determing future instructional needs.
This iPad is the missing link in proving my students with an one-on-one opportunity to practice their sight words and read leveled texts.
