My Students

Science in the early childhood classroom is critical. Developing a love of science and reasoning as a young child will foster critical skills in the years to come. One the greatest joys of teaching for me is implementing inquiry based learning in our school. I currently teach two sessions of kindergarten and am implementing a afterschool science program.

My Project

Last year, our school followed a shortened day schedule. Each day, the kindergarten students lost 40 minutes instructional time. As teachers, our focus during this time was on literacy and mathematics. Science had to be placed on hold due to time constraints.

This year, I will implement an afterschool science program in which students in first through third grade (as well as my kindergarten students) will have the opportunity to explore Squishy Circuits, simple machines, automatons, hovercrafts, catapults, coding and rockets.

These activities will foster communication, critical thinking, observation and a basic understanding of the nature of science which was minimally covered during the COVID Pandemic shortened day schedule.
