Soaring To New Heights With 21st Century Skills (Part 2)
My students need 2 iPads to help us incorporate 21st Century Skills with collaboration and learning while increasing their reading levels and comprehension skills.
I have 25 amazing students in a Title I School. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives. However, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
My students need 2 IPads to help us incorporate 21st Century skills for collaboration and learning.
My goal is to expose my first graders to the technology that will make it possible to help strengthen their comprehension skills and provide them with as many opportunities as possible to help increase their fluency. Having IPads and the available apps will help my students reach that goal.
My Project
Turning my classroom into an "IClassroom" will provide endless possibilities for my students to read books that interest them and will help increase their reading and comprehension skills in addition to increasing their writing skills through the resources they will have access to. As well as help those who strive through the use of technology over a pencil and paper.
By gaining the access to iPads, Apps including QR readers, reading and writing apps and websites, and the internet my students will have access to 21st Century Learning Skills in a way that is necessary for success in today's culture.
IPads will give my students the motivation through a media source that they do not have access to ordinarily.
