This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at our school are passionate about music. There are many students that participate in the vast array of music clubs that we have. The clubs included in our music program include percussion ensemble, chorus, ukulele club, and stage crew.
Our music clubs give students the potential to gain many skills and character traits that will help them succeed in life including leadership, perseverance, and teamwork.
Students in these clubs work hard to produce stellar performances. Our school is a Title I school with 66% of the students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. Students would love the opportunity to participate in clubs free of charge.
My Project
These ukuleles will give students a chance to participate in one of the four music clubs at our school free of cost. Teaching songs on ukuleles allows our school to connect our extra curricular activities to the 4th grade music curriculum which involves learning about the four instrument families.
These families include the brass, woodwind, percussion, and string families.
Having these instruments will also allow our ukulele club to put on performances for our student body and educate all grade levels about the instrument. The instruments will also be used to teach 2nd grade students about producing sound when they study this subject in their science studies.
